Our illustration shows the IOW signal before and after the Fastcom: LT1 adapter is added to the top or the PC/104 stack.

Placing the Fastcom: LT1 on top of every PC/104 stack will improve noise immunity and system stability. The Fastcom: LT1 increases data integrity and reliability by reducing noise and ringing in data and control lines without adverse impact to the system. The Fastcom: LT1 is transparent to all software and no setup is required — just plug it into the top of the PC/104 stack.

Most single board computer (SBC) systems have some line noise and ringing, but the noise doesn't become critical until you add multiple cards to the PC/104 stack or begin to push the system to its limit. Then the system becomes unstable, unreliable, and the cause is extremely difficult to diagnose. For some SBC PC/104 systems 16-bit data transfers require that the stack be terminated with the Fastcom: LT1 adapter. This is even more imperative if your stack consists of three or more adapters.

Bus termination is part of the PC/104 specification (Version 2.6, Page 7, Section 4.7):

"Termination of the 8-bit and 16-bit ISA bus signals may be desired in some systems to increase data integrity and system reliability. When termination is included, AC termination networks must be used to provide termination close to the characteristic impedance of the signal lines without exceeding the DC output current capabilities of the drivers.

As in the ISA standard, the recommended network consists of a resistor-capacitor network of 40-60 ohms in series with 30-70 pF, connected between each bus signal and ground.

Whether termination is needed and where it should be located, is dependent on the specific system configuration and must be determined by the system designer. "

Therefore, you can add the Fastcom: LT1 to all PC/104 compliant systems. The capacitance and resistance of the Fastcom: LT1 termination is 47 pF and 47 ohm, respectively.
