Fastcom®: IG422/1-PCI Fully Isolated Asynchronous RS422 & RS485 PCI Bus Serial Communications Interface Adapter

The FASTCOM: IG422/1-PCI adapter is a fully isolated RS422 / RS485 adapter designed for commercial, industrial, and OEM applications. The FASTCOM: IG422/1-PCI features one RS422 channel, complete with RTS and CTS flow control signals.

Most RS422 adapters that advertise isolation provide only partial isolation for the signal lines. The full isolation of RS422 signal lines and Ground provided by the FASTCOM: IG422/1-PCI is extremely important to any industrial/commercial application that requires high reliability, data integrity, and system safety. The FASTCOM: IG422/1-PCI is designed to provide full isolation from a remote RS422 device: the UART is isolated from the RS422 signals and the Ground is isolated from the power supply and chassis of the PC.

The advanced 16C850 UART on the FASTCOM: IG422/1-PCI features full compatibility with standard 16C550 and 16C650 UARTs, but also provides extraordinary 128-byte receive and transmit FIFOs for buffering. This buffering is extremely important when working with high-overhead operating systems such as Windows NT and 2000 (drivers supplied). The extra-deep FIFOs prevent data loss due to overrun and dramatically improve data throughput in all applications. Our software drivers support all standard baud rates.

Software examples and drivers are supplied for Windows 98/2000/NT/XP, and Linux Kernel 2.4.x. These drivers allow the board to be "just another com port" in the system. Programming is done using the standard WIN32 COMM API.

The FASTCOM: IG422/1-PCI is a switchless design that relies on the plug-and-play functionality capability defined in the PCI 2.1 bus specification to determine address ranges and IRQ settings.
